Codes and Frequencies
GEO_ RW2005_2014 reports the region of Rwanda where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. All Rwanda samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables. An additional geographic variable, GEO_RW1992_2005, includes the 1992, 2000, and 2005 Rwanda samples and contains different geographic units (groups of prefectures).
An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Rwanda can be downloaded here.
In 2002, geographic units of prefectures changed to provinces. In 2006, the twelve provinces were abolished and replaced with the five provinces available in GEO_RW2005_2014.
The 2005 sample includes both provinces and prefectures as geographic units (see GEO_RW2005).
The Rwanda 1992 and 2000 samples are excluded from GEO_RW2005_2014 due to inconsistent boundaries.
