Description
For women who were randomly selected and interviewed for the domestic violence module and were ever married or lived with a man, DVEEVER (D104) indicates whether they ever experienced any emotional violence from their husband/partner. Emotional violence includes humiliation, insults, and threats of harm.

Comparability
DVEEVER (D104) is constructed based on responses to questions about humiliation (DVEHUMIL (D103A)), threats (DVETHREAT (D103B)), and insults (DVEINSULT (D103C)). The majority of samples contain all three of those constituent variables, but some contain only DVEHUMIL and DVETHREAT. The absence of DVEINSULT from some samples may result in more "No" responses to DVEEVER than would otherwise have occurred if questions about insults had been consistently included in constructing DVEEVER.

Comparability - Standard DHS
The survey questions used to construct DVEEVER (D104) are not included in the standard DHS questionnaire for any phase, but they are based on questions included in Phases IV, V, VI and VII of the standard domestic violence module. DVEHUMIL and DVETHREAT are included Phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module; DVEINSULT is included in Phases V, VI, VII, and VIII of the module.
