Description

HCMJO1 indicates whether the woman reported a government hospital as a source for (male) condoms. This response category is country-specific to Jordan.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMJO1 is combined with HCMJO2 (public university hospital) in HCMPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017 Jordan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMJO1 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMJO1 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward.

Although HCMJO1 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHOS, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMJO1 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Jordan samples.
