IHGISMM2014POPG2P
(IHGISMM2014POPG2P)
IHGISMM2014POPG2P is a 6-digit numeric variable with 2 decimal places.
Description
IHGISMM2014POPG2P reports the probability that the DHS sample cluster was placed in the correct IHGIS geographic unit from the Myanmar 2014 sample in the complementary variable IHGISMM2014POPG2. This variable was created using GPS data associated with the specific DHS sample. See more information on our user note on the IHGIS-DHS linkages.
The census-to-DHS geography crosswalk variable uses a 2-kilometer (for urban areas) or 5-kilometer (for rural areas) buffer around each DHS sample cluster, to account for cluster displacement (a confidentiality measure employed by The DHS Program). These buffers are then overlaid on second-level geographic units from published census tables. If the buffer crosses the boundaries of two or more second-level geographic units, we report the code for the geographic unit with the highest placement probability index.
IHGISMM2014POPG2P reports the placement probability index to indicate the likelihood that the cluster was placed in the correct census geographic unit. If the entire buffer area falls within a single administrate unit, IHGISMM2014POPG2P is assigned the highest possible value of 100 percent. If a buffer area straddles more than one second-level geographic unit, the placement probability index has a lower value. Tabulation geographies with smaller units (e.g., districts) have lower placement probability index percentages, on average, compared to tabulation geographies with larger units (e.g., provinces).
Comparability
A code of 0 means that the respective DHS cluster does not have associated location information. If this is the case, the corresponding geographic unit variable will also be coded as 0. Codes for this variable will otherwise fall between 1 and 100.
Comparability - Standard DHS
IHGISMM2014POPG2P is a contextual variable that uses census geography data from the IPUMS IHGIS database and survey-specific GPS coordinates from the DHS Program.
