Description

ATZW2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a public provincial hospital as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Zimbabwe.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATZW2 is combined with ATZW1 (public central hospital) and ATZW3 (public district/rural hospital) in ATPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2005 Zimbabwe sample.

Additionally, Zimbabwe 2010 separates public district and public rural hospital into two distinct response categories. As a result, ATZW2 is combined with ATZW1, ATZW4 (public district hospital), and ATZW5 (public rural hospital in ATPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2010 Zimbabwe sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATZW2 are encouraged to review ATPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ATZW2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATZW2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPUBHOS, a standard variable that encompasses all public hospitals as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATZW2 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Zimbabwe samples.
