Description

AIDKNOWONE2 is a variable that double-checks whether the woman personally knows someone who currently has (or is suspected to have) HIV/AIDS or knows someone who died of AIDS. This confirmatory question is posed after the woman has been asked three questions (see AIDDENYSOCIAL, AIDDENYHEALTH, and AIDVERBABUSE for these questions) about people who have or are suspected to have HIV/AIDS.

The related variable AIDKNOWONE indicates whether the woman knows someone who had or died from AIDS, and simply collects information rather than confirming the accuracy of responses to earlier questions.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, AIDKNOWONE2 has no comparability issues.

Researchers using this variable should be careful to check the universe statement of their sample(s) and confirm that they should not be using AIDKNOWONE instead.

Comparability - Standard DHS
