Description

For women who recently gave birth and were tested for the HIV/AIDS virus as part of their antenatal care, AIDTLASTANTE (V842) indicates where they took the test.

Responses vary widely across surveys; see Comparability.

Comparability

The response categories in AIDTLASTANTE (V842) vary widely across samples. To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding and a 3-digit coding system.

The first digit of AIDTLASTANTE broadly distinguishes between sectors: 1) public sector, 2) private medical sector, and 3) other sources. The second digit distinguishes broad subcategories within these initial groupings, while the third digit provides additional detail. For example, within the public sector (with a first digit of "1"), a code of "110" indicates a government hospital, and the further detail in code "111" indicates a level I government hospital.

Comparability - Standard DHS

AIDTLASTANTE (V842) is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
