Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, ALFREQMO has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
Prior to DHS Phase 8, ALFREQMO is a country-specific variable not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. In DHS Phase 8, ALFREQMO is given the standard name V485A, and the survey question asks about drinking in the past month. In Phase 8, additional responses were 31 and Every day/almost every day. To maximize comparability with previous phases, IPUMS DHS combines these additional responses with the response 30 (days).
