Codes

0 = No
1 = Yes
8 = Missing
9 = NIU (not in universe)

Description

For women who gave birth in the last three to five years, ANCARENP1_ALL indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported that a maternal and child health (MCH) worker gave antenatal care for a birth. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.

ANCARENP1_ALL consists of a set of up to six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (ANCARENP1_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., ANCARENP1_02, ANCARENP1_03, ANCARENP1_04, ANCARENP1_05, and ANCARENP1_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If ANCARENP1_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, ANCARENP1_ALL has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about who provided antenatal care is included in Phase II forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. ANCARENP1_ALL is a country-specific response.
