Description

ANKNOWBD4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported a NGO satellite clinic as a place to receive antenatal care. This variable is country-specific to Bangladesh.

Some samples in the "ANKNOW" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANKNOWBD4 is combined with ANKNOWBD3 (NGO static clinic) and ANKNOWBD5 (NGO fieldworker) in ANKNOWNGO (all NGOs) for the 2000 Bangladesh samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANKNOWBD4 are encouraged to review ANKNOWNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ANKNOWBD4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

ANKNOWBD4 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ANKNOWBD4 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ANKNOWNGO, a country-specific variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources for antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANKNOWBD4 or the Comparability tab of ANKNOWNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for Bangladesh 2000.
