ATEFRUIT24H indicates whether the woman respondent ate fruit during the previous day, either at night or during the daytime.

Some samples in this series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, such as ATEOFRTVEG24H, while preserving the separate responses in separate variables.

ATEFRUIT24H has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

ATEFRUIT24H is a country-specific variable not included in any standard DHS questionnaire. The standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 5 includes questions about food and drink eaten by the woman during the previous day, including room for country-specific choices.

Comparability — Nepal [top]

The Nepal 2016 questionnaire refers to "Other fruits: Tomatoes, bananas, apples, guavas, oranges, other citrus fruits, pineapple, watermelon, grapes, strawberries, plum, etc."

ATEFRUIT24H is combined with ATEVEG24H (vegetables) in ATEOFRTVEG24H (V472L) (other fruits and vegetables) for the 2016 Nepal sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in ATEFRUIT24H are encouraged to review ATEOFRTVEG24H for a more comprehensive response category.
