Description

ATEG1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported any laboratory as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Egypt.

Although IPUMS-DHS integrates "public laboratory" (see ATPUBLAB) and "private laboratory" (see ATPRIVLAB) across samples, ATEG1 is not included in these integrated variables because the type of laboratory is not specified in ATEG1.

Comparability

ATEG1 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. ATEG1 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules.
