Description

ATML11 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a private pharmacy as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATML11 is combined with ATML12 (private university dispensary) in ATPRIVDRUG (all private, formal drug sources) for the 2012 Mali sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATML11 are encouraged to review ATPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ATML11 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATML11 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVDRUG, a standard variable that encompasses all private, formal drug sources as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATML11 or the Comparability tab of ATPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for the Mali samples.
