Description

ATRUG5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported an AIDS Information Center, a non-governmental organization (NGO), as a potential source of treatment for HIV/AIDS (ARVs, or antiretroviral therapy). This variable is country-specific to Uganda.

Some samples in the "ATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATRUG5 (AIDS Information Center) is combined with ATRUG4 (TASO) in ATRNGO (all non-governmental organizations) for the 2006 Uganda sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using ATRUG5 are encouraged to review ATRNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ATRUG5 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

ATRUG5 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
