Description

ATTD9 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a private health center as a source for testing for HIV. This response category is country-specific to Chad.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATTD9 (private health center) is combined with ATTD10 (private corporate health center) in ATPRIVHC (all private health centers) for the 2004 and 2014 Chad samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATTD9 are encouraged to review ATPRIVHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, ATTD9 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for HIV is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ATTD9 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVHC, a standard variable that encompasses all private health centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATTD9 or the Comparability tab of ATPRIVHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Chad samples.

  • Chad 2004: Women age 15-49 who have heard of HIV/AIDS, have never been tested for HIV/AIDS, and who know of a place to be tested.
