Description

BIRTHSOTHER (V237) indicates whether the woman had any other live births in the interval between the last reported birth and the date of the interview. The question for this variable verifies whether the woman omitted any births when reporting her birth record. Omitted births should be included in the final version of the birth history in the variable CHEB (V201).

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and minor variation in question wording, BIRTHSOTHER (V237) has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

BIRTHSOTHER (V237) first appears in phase III of the standard DHS questionnaire. The question was originally only asked of women whose last birth reported was more than 4 years prior to the survey. In phase IV and beyond, all women who have ever had a live birth were asked the question.
