Description

For women who have been told by a doctor that she has high blood pressure or hypertension, BPALCOHOL indicates whether she is currently cutting down on alcohol to lower her blood pressure.

Comparability

Along with universe differences, BPALCOHOL varies across samples in the allowed response categories, sometimes including "not applicable" as well as "yes" and "no." To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses a common first digit of "1" for both non-affirmative ("no" and "not applicable") responses, and distinguishes between "no" and "not applicable" in the second digit of the harmonized codes.

Comparability - Standard DHS

BPALCOHOL is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
