Comparability

Differences resulting from the question wording for the variable DVHANY (D119Y) may limit the comparability of DVHOTHFAMLAWF across samples. In effect, while most samples ask if the respondent has "ever" sought help from some other female-in-law or relative to stop such abuse, some samples ask if the respondent has sought help from some other female-in-law or family member to stop such abuse within "the past year."

Variation in response category wording may also affect the comparability of this variable. Some surveys reference only female "in-laws," while others refer to both in-laws and relatives.
