Comparability

There are differences in question wording that may limit the comparability of DVOBOSS (D115W) across samples.

The majority of samples ask whether the respondent was physically hurt by her employer or someone at work. However, some samples only code for whether the woman's employer hurt her.

Only samples with potential comparability issues are discussed below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

DVOBOSS is not included in the standard DHS questionnaire for any phase, but it is based on questions included in phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module. The variable wording changes across versions of the standard module, however. Phase IV asks whether the woman's employer hurt her in a physical way; the phases V, VI, and VII ask whether the woman's employer or someone else at work hurt her in a physical way.
