Description

For women who were randomly selected and interviewed for the domestic violence module and were ever married or lived with a man, DVPKICK (D105D) indicates whether the woman's husband/partner had ever kicked her, dragged her, or beaten her up.

Comparability

There are differences in question wording that may limit the comparability of DVPKICK (D105D) across samples.

All samples that include DVPKICK ask whether the woman's husband or partner had kicked or dragged her. The majority of samples ask whether the woman had been kicked, dragged, or beaten up. Samples that mention only kicking and dragging, with no reference to being beaten up, are noted below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

DVPKICK (D105D) is not included in the standard DHS questionnaire for any phase, but it is included in phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module.

In the first version of the standard domestic violence module, which is used with the standard DHS questionnaire through Phase IV, the respondent is asked whether her husband/partner ever kicks or drags her. In all subsequent versions of the standard domestic violence module, used with the standard DHS questionnaire beginning in Phase V, the respondent is asked whether her husband/partner ever kicks her, drags her, or beats her up.
