Comparability

Apart from universe differences, DVSEXACTSEV (D125) is largely comparable across samples.

Comparability - Standard DHS

DVSEXACTSEV (D125) is not included in the standard DHS questionnaire for any phase, but it is based on a question included in phases V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module.

Comparability — Liberia [top]

The 2007 Liberia survey uses a country-specific euphemism, men business, to politely refer to sexual intercourse.

Comparability — South Africa [top]

The 1998 South Africa survey asks, "Has anyone ever forced you to have sexual intercourse against your will by threatening, holding you down or hurting you in some way?" Users should note that this is limited to sexual intercourse using physical force, rather than the more general "force" and "other sex acts."

The 2016 South Africa survey asks, "At any time in your life, as a child or as an adult, has anyone ever forced you in any way to have sexual intercourse when you did not want to?" Users should note that this is limited to sexual intercourse, rather than the more general "other sex acts."
