ETHNICITYGN (V131GN) is a country-specific variable for Guinea that collects information about the ethnic group to which the woman belongs. Six ethnic groups (with codes 01 through 06) are reported for all Guinean samples. The broad "other" categories have some variation. IPUMS-DHS therefore uses a composite coding system, in which broad "other" groups share a common first digit of 1, with specific detail preserved by the code's second digit.
