Description

FISKIPPED (HFS4) indicates whether members of the household skipped meals because of a lack of money or other resources, over the past 12 months.

This variable is part of the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES), which consists of the following eight variables:

Each affirmative answer in these variables is coded 1. Summing the number of yes answers yields a score between 0 and 8. A total score of 0 to 3 indicates the household is food secure or mildly food insecure. A total of 4 to 6 yes answers indicates the household has moderate food insecurity. A total of 7 to 8 yes answers indicates the household is severely food insecure.

FISKIPPED (HFS4) has no comparability problems.
