Description

FPAPPROVE (V612) indicates whether the woman approves, in general, of the use of family planning to avoid a pregnancy.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight changes in question wording over time (see below), FPAPPROVE (V612) is largely comparable across samples.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FPAPPROVE (V612) is included in the standard DHS questionnaire from Phase I through Phase IV. In Phases I and II, the question was, "In general, do you approve or disapprove of couples using a method to avoid pregnancy?" or some slight variation. In Phases III and IV, the question slightly changed to "Would you say that you approve or disapprove of couples using a contraceptive method to avoid getting pregnant?"
