Description

FPKNOMODSRC (V303) indicates whether the woman knew of source from which she believed she could obtain a modern method of family planning. Whether the source existed and whether it could supply the method was not verified.

In the DHS, the following family planning methods are considered modern methods: Pill, IUD, injections, diaphragm, condom, female sterilization, male sterilization, implants, female condom, foam/jelly, lactational amenorrhea, and emergency contraception.

Along with differences in the universe, question wording varies in FPKNOMODSRC (V303), but the variable is largely comparable across samples.

Some samples ask the woman where she knew a source to obtain a method of family planning: "Do you know where to go to get (METHOD)?" Other samples require the women to identify a source for a method of family planning: "Where would you go to obtain (METHOD) if you wanted to use it?"
