GENERAL

Comparability

In addition to universe differences, the wording of this response category varies slightly across samples. Most commonly, this response option was categorized under an "other private source" header and was worded as "Church." Other samples use the broader label "religious institution." As noted below, however, some samples diverged from this standard convention.

IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Survey Text tab for samples of interest.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though responses in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in FPNONCHURCH to increase comparability across samples.

Comparability — Benin [top]

For the Benin surveys, this response category is organized under the "Other private source" header and is worded as "Church/Mosque."
