For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONMG3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a level I government health center as a source of family planning in response. This response category is country-specific to Madagascar.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONMG3 is combined with FPNONMG4 (level II government health center) in FPNONPUBHC for the Madagascar samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONMG3 are encouraged to review FPNONPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though FPNONMG3 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FPNONPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as potential sources of family planning.
