Description

For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONML4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a community health center (CSCOM) as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONML4 is combined with FPNONML3 (reference health center, CSREF) in FPNONPUBHC for the Mali samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONML4 are encouraged to review FPNONPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

FPNONML4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though FPNONML4 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FPNONPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as potential sources of family planning. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONML4 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Mali samples.
