Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONPK5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a "homeopath" as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONPK5 is combined with FPNONPK6 ("hakim") and FPNONPK7 ("dai") in FPNONPRIVHL (all traditional healers/practitioners) for the 2006 and 2012 Pakistan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONPK5 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVHL for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
FPNONPK5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although FPNONPK5 is a country-specific response, it is combined with other responses in FPNONPRIVHL, a standard variable that encompasses all traditional healers/practitioners as sources of family planning. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONPK5 or the Comparability tab of FPNONPRIVHL for more information on the specific categories combined for Pakistan 2006 and 2012.
