Description

For women who are not currently using a method of contraception, FPNONPRIVHC indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a "private health center" as a source of family planning.

Users should be careful to distinguish this variable from FPNONPUBHC ("health center" under the "Public Sector" header).

Comparability

Apart from slight differences in wording, FPNONPRIVHC is largely comparable across samples and was consistently organized under a "Private Medical Sector" header.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though responses in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in FPNONPRIVHC to increase comparability across samples.
