FPNONSZ1 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a "mission hospital" as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Swaziland/Eswatini.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONSZ1 is combined with FPNONSZ2 (mission clinic) and FPNONSZ3 (other mission) in FPNONPRIVMIS (all mission health facilities) for the Swaziland/Eswatini sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONSZ1 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

FPNONSZ1 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire, though FPNONSZ1 is a country-specific response.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONPRIVMIS to integrate samples including mission health facilities as potential sources of family planning.
