Description

FPPOSTHR indicates whether the woman has recently seen family planning messages on a poster.

Comparability

Along with slight universe differences, FPPOSTHR differs across samples in question wording.

Most commonly, the woman is asked to recall family planning messages over the ambiguous interval of a "few months." Other samples asked about exposure during a specific number of months. It is possible that varying time intervals could lead to variation in the frequency of responses. Some samples asked about exposure to family planning messages in some other medium (such as pamphlets) in addition to posters.

To address these differences, IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Survey Text tab and take the reference period into consideration when comparing across samples.

The 2013 Liberia survey asked specifically about exposure to the family planning slogan "Baby by Choice."

The Nepal surveys for 2006, 2011, and 2016 asks about exposure to family planning messages on "a poster, hoarding board or billboard."
