Description

FPPROBPLTS2 reports the woman's opinion about the main problem, if any, with using medicinal plants or herbs as a family planning method. Interviewers collected the information through an open-ended question and then recorded the woman's response using (non-standard) country-specific codes.

IPUMS-DHS interested in using FPPROBPLTS2 may also be interested in FPPROBPLTS, which coded the woman's response using standard response categories.

Comparability

FPPROBPLTS2 varies across samples in the number and type of response categories.

To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding and a 2-digit coding system. The first digit broadly distinguishes between different problems (e.g., side effects/health concerns), and the second digit provides additional detail within these initial groupings (e.g., side effects for woman versus side effects for child).

Comparability - Standard DHS

FPPROBPLTS2 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. However, this variable is part of a series on problems with contraceptive methods, which is included in Phase I of the standard DHS questionnaire.
