FPUSEMRGYR
(FPUSEMRGYR)Codes and Frequencies
Description
FPUSEMRGYR reports whether the woman used emergency contraception in the past 12 months.
Comparability
FPUSEMRGYR has significant differences in the question universe (who was asked the question) before and after Phase 8 of the DHS.
Earlier samples asked women who had ever used emergency contraception whether they had used this method in the past year. Beginning in Phase 8, women not using family planning, or who began an episode of contraceptive use over 5 years ago, were asked whether they had used emergency contraception in the past year. Because the focus of this variable shifted dramatically, users are advised to avoid combining samples before and after Phase 8 with this variable.
Comparability - Standard DHS
Prior to DHS Phase 8, FPUSEMRGYR is a country-specific variable not included in any Phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. Beginning in DHS Phase 8, this variable is given the standard name V3A13 and largely focuses on women not currently using family planning.
