Comparability

Question wording varies across samples in FSAFTDELIVER, limiting the variable's comparability.

For some samples, FSAFTDELIVER asks whether fistula occurred after delivery or after a stillbirth. For others, FSAFTDELIVER asks only whether the problem occurred after delivery.

Samples diverging from these two patterns of question wording are discussed below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

FSAFTDELIVER is included in the standard DHS Module on fistula, as the question "Did this problem start after you delivered a baby or had a stillbirth?"

Comparability — Guinea [top]

The Guinea 2012 survey form does not include a separate question about whether fistula occurred after a delivery (or stillbirth). Instead, the response category "Delivery" is included in a question about various causes of fistula. To incorporate the Guinea 2012 sample into FSAFTDELIVER, IPUMS-DHS recodes the "Delivery" response as "Yes" and all other causal events (sexual assault, pelvic surgery, and other) as "No." For the full range of responses about the causes of fistula for Guinea 2012, see FSAFTALL.
