Description

GEO_AO2006_2015 reports the region of Angola where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples for Angola.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample for Angola also has its own non-integrated geography variable.

Comparability

The 2006 and 2011 samples correspond to Malaria Indicators Surveys (MIS). These surveys grouped the provinces into 4 regions.

Here we list the regions found in the 2006 and 2011 surveys and their corresponding provinces.

  • Hyperendemic: Cabinda, Uíge, Cuanza Norte, Malanje, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul
  • Mesoendemic Stable: Zaire, Cuanza Sul, Benguela, Huambo, Bié, Bengo
  • Mesoendemic Unstable: Moxico, Cuando Cubango, Namibe, Huíla, Cunene
  • Luanda: Luanda

In addition, a 2011 reform transferred two municipalities from Bengo province to Luanda province.
