GEO_SN2014 indicates the region of Senegal where the respondent was interviewed. DHS regions in the 2014 Senegal survey are equivalent to groups of regions.
Users interested in using the combined 2012 -2014 survey should use GEO_SN2012_2014.

GEO_SN2014 is harmonized into four broad regions. Note that these regions are different from the GEO_SN1986_2017 regions.

Based on the 2017 administrative regions, GEO_SN1986_2017 combines regions into:

  • West (Dakar, Thiès)
  • Center (Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Louga, Kaffrine)
  • North east (Saint-Louis, Tambacounda, Matam, Kedougou)
  • South (Kolda, Ziguinchor, Sedhiou)

Based on the 2017 administrative regions, GEO_SN2014 combines regions into:

  • West (Dakar, Thiès)
  • Center (Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Kaffrine)
  • North (Saint-Louis, Louga, Matam)
  • South (Kolda, Ziguinchor, Sedhiou, Tambacounda, Kedougou)

Refer to variable GEO_ SN1986_2017 if you are using all Senegal samples from 1986 to the later years. NOTE: The 2012-2014 and 2015-2016 surveys of Senegal have to be combined when using GEO_SN1986_2017.

Use the 14 regions from GEO_SN2012_2014 if you are combining 2012-2014 surveys.
