HCFSZ3 indicates whether the female respondent reported the non-governmental organization (NGO) FLAS (Family Life Association of Swaziland) as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Swaziland/Eswatini.

Some samples in the "HCF" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMFZ3 is combined with HCFSZ4 (Other NGO) in HCFNGO (all NGOs) for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFSZ3 are encouraged to review HCFNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCFSZ3 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase IV forward, in countries where female condoms are actively promoted.

Although HCFSZ3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCFNGO, a variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources of female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFSZ3 or the Comparability tab of HCFNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland sample.
