Description

HCMCG2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported a health post as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMCG2 (health post) is combined with HCMCG1 (health center/mother-infant center) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 2005 and 2011 Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMCG2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMCG2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Although HCMCG2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMCG2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Republic of the Congo - Brazzaville 2005 and 2011 surveys.
