Codes and Frequencies
HCMET3 indicates whether the woman reported a "government health center" as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Ethiopia.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMET3 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
HCMET3 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMET3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMET3 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Ethiopia 2000, 2005, and 2011.
- Ethiopia 2000: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
- Ethiopia 2005: All women age 15-49.
- Ethiopia 2011: All women age 15-49.
