Description

HCMGH2 indicates whether the woman reported a "government health post/CHPS [community-based health planning and services]" as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Ghana.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMGH2 is combined with HCMGH5 (government health center) in HCMPUBHC (public health centers and health posts) for the 2008 and 2014 Ghana samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMGH2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMGH2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Though HCMGH2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMGH2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Ghana 2008 and 2014.
