Description

HCMJO4 indicates whether the woman reported a government maternal and child health (MCH) center as a source for (male) condoms. This response category is country-specific to Jordan.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMJO4 is combined with HCMJO3 (government health center) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017 Jordan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMJO4 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMJO4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward.

Although HCMJO4 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMJO4 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Jordan samples.
