HCMRW8 indicates whether the woman reported a public health post as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Rwanda.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMRW8 is combined with HCMRW7 (public health center) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 2010 and 2014 Rwanda samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMRW8 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Though HCMRW8 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMRW8 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Rwanda 2010 and 2014.
