Description

HCMSN2 indicates whether the woman reported a public health post as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Senegal.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMSN2 is combined with HCMSN1 (public health center) in HCMPUBHC (all public health centers and health posts) for the 1997, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Senegal samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMSN2 are encouraged to review HCMPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMSN2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.

Although HCMSN2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers and health posts as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMSN2 or the Comparability tab of HCMPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Senegal 1997, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
