Description

HEIGHTFEM (V438) reports the woman's height as measured by DHS personnel. HEIGHTFEM values are reported in millimeters, to preserve one centimeter decimal place without requiring the use of a decimal point. Dividing HEIGHTFEM by 10 will yield the woman's measured height in centimeters.

Comparability

Apart from changes in universe over time (see below), HEIGHTFEM (V438) is largely comparable across samples.

Comparability - Standard DHS

HEIGHTFEM (V438) is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase II forward. In phases prior to Phase IV, while some samples included all interviewed women for anthropometry measurement, other samples included only mothers of children under three/five years. In Phase IV forward, all interviewed women were included in the anthropometry measurements. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to refer to the Universe tab when making comparisons across samples.
