Description

HUSEDYRAO reports the number of years of schooling the respondent's husband attended. This variable is country-specific to Angola.

Comparability

The 2015 Angola questionnaire asks, "What is the highest class or year your husband/partner attended?" In most cases, the class or year reported in YRSCHLAO corresponds with the totalyears of school attendance, rather than the years of education at the highest level achieved. However, if the highest level of education (HUSEDLVLAO) is above a Licentiate degree (Master or Doctorate), the value labels for HUSEDLVLAO report the number of years of schooling at the level achieved.

For example, if HUSEDLVLAO is "Licentiate" (code "7") and HUSEDYRAO is "Year 5" (code "18"), the individual has attended 5 years of post-secondary education. However, if HUSEDLVLAO is "Master" (code "8") and HUSEDYRAO is "Year 2" (code "15"), the individual has attended 2 years of a Master's degree program, following receipt of a licentiate degree.

Comparability - Standard DHS

A question about the highest year of education the respondent has completed is included in every phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. HUSEDYRAO is a country-specific variable.
