IHGISUG2002POPAGG1 is a 3-digit alpha-numeric variable representing first-level geographic units.

Description

IHGISUG2002POPAGG1 is a geographic crosswalk variable that enables users to link DHS sample clusters to corresponding geography from population and agricultural census tabulations in the IHGIS database for Uganda 2002. This variable was created using GPS data associated with the specific DHS sample. See more information on how the variable was created on our user note on the IHGIS-DHS linkages.

The complementary variable IHGISUG2002POPAGG1P reports the probability that a DHS sample cluster was placed in the correct IHGIS census geographic unit in IPUMS IHGIS.

Users can attach aggregate population and agricultural census data from IHGIS to the units in IHGISUG2002POPAGG1 and attach those measures to IPUMS DHS individuals or households as contextual information for microdata analysis.

Comparability

A code of 0 means that the respective DHS cluster does not have associated location information. If this is the case, the corresponding probability variable will also be coded as 0.
