In addition to universe differences, MONEYFORSEX (V872) also varies in question wording across samples. In most cases, the survey asked whether the woman had ever received money or gifts for sex. In other cases, the survey asked whether the woman had ever given or received money or gifts for sex or used a specific reference period.

MONEYFORSEX (V872) is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase III only.
Comparability — Central African Republic [top]
In the 1995 Central African Republic survey, this question is worded as, "Have you given or received money, gifts, or favors in return for sex in the last 4 weeks?"
In addition, the universe differs from the usual convention, instead of including women who have had sexual intercourse or who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS, the universe includes women who have had sexual intercourse and who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.

In the 1998 Togo survey, the universe differs from the usual convention. Instead of including women who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS, the universe is limited to "women age 15-49 have ever had sexual intercourse or who have not heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS."

The 1995 Uganda survey asks, "For that last sexual intercourse [with someone other than a husband/regular partner], did you receive money, gifts or favours in return for sex?"
