Description
For women who gave birth in the five years before the survey, NBFEDOIL_01 indicates whether the child was given oil in the first three days after delivery (for the last birth).

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording (see below), NBFEDOIL_01 is largely comparable across samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
NBFEDOIL_01 is based on an open-ended question about foods given to newborns in the first three days after delivery, included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phases IV through VI. NBFEDOIL_01 is a country-specific response category.
In Phase IV, the standard questionnaire asks, "What was (NAME) given to drink before your milk began flowing regularly?"
In Phases V and VI, the standard questionnaires ask, "What was (NAME) given to drink?"

Universe
- Bangladesh 2011: Ever-married women age 12-49 whose last-born child under age 5 was ever breastfed.
- Pakistan 1991: Ever-married women age 15-49 who gave birth in the 5 years before the survey and who breastfed the child, but who did not put the child to the breast "immediately."
- Yemen 2013: Women age 15-49 who have ever been married and whose last-born child under age 5 was ever breastfed.
