Description

For children born in the three to five years preceding the survey, PREMATBR (M16) indicates whether the child was born on time or prematurely.

GENERAL

Comparability

In addition to universe differences and slight differences in question wording, PREMATBR (M16) varies in the number of response categories. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with "On time" responses having a first digit of "0," "Premature" responses having a first digit of "1," and "Overdue" responses having a first digit of "2." The second digit provides additional detail, when available.
